When getting it right on the 1st take counts.
by: Shawn Hickman
Many couples think they can cut a few corners by having uncle Charlie or aunt Mary video their wedding. They’ve had a camcorder for a long time; they must know what they are doing right? And what the heck it’s free!

But then you watch the video and the memories you had just aren’t coming across the way you remember them; or at least you didn’t get see sick during the real thing. Don’t get me wrong there are plenty of relatives and friends who could probably do a half way decent job but why take the chance? This is your wedding, your big day, and you only get one shot at it. When getting it right on the first take counts you really should not settle for anything less than a professional wedding videographer to capture your precious event.

Professional wedding videographers understand the nature of the wedding service and know the ins and outs of capturing all of the important moments. They also know the dynamics of working with the people involved in your wedding, including the clergy, photographer and others. I don’t know how many times a photographer has told me they missed a good shot because aunt Mary was in the way. More often though I hear from clergy about the uncle Charlie’s that crossed the line of propriety several times by not abiding by the rules of the venue or understanding the sanctity of the church.

Being a professional wedding videographer takes more than just knowing how to run a camcorder, get great footage or capture excellent audio. A good wedding videographer is able to make you and your party feel entirely at ease by being as unobtrusive and transparent as possible. They are able to work with you to find out what is important to you. What types of camera angles you like, what parts of the ceremony and reception are absolutely essential to capture, what effects if any you would like applied in edit, and so on. They know how to meet your expectations and create a finished product that you will be proud to share with family and friends.

Many couples do not understand the value of a wedding videographer until they see someone else’s professionally shot and edited video and by then it’s already too late. When you consider how much time the average person spends in front of the television, having a video of your wedding starts to make a lot of sense.

Whatever you’re feelings are about hiring a professional wedding videographer, you owe to yourself to at least make a few calls and ask some questions. It could be one of the best decisions you ever make.
