A little background on Birkenstock sandals! |
by:
Mike Yeager |
Birkenstock sandals have a long history…all the way to Germany in the late 1700’s. While sandals have been around for a long time, the unique Birkenstock sandal s got it’s start in a small German village in 1774, where Johann Adam Birkenstock was registered as "subject and shoemaker" in the church archives.
In 1897 Johann's grandson, Konrad Birkenstock, develops a concept that would literally change the shape of footwear, and eventually the Birkenstock sandal. Although the soles of our feet are curved, shoes had always been flat inside. Konrad theorized that if the shape of the shoes reflected the shape of the feet, greater comfort would be possible. Soon he designed the first shoe with a contoured insole to be used by shoemakers in the production of custom footwear. Then, in 1902 Konrad Birkenstock develops the first flexible arch support, to be inserted in the factory-made shoes that have become widely distributed in Germany.
Birkenstock sandals have been around for a long time and are popular today with many people. Birkenstock sandals feature their signature cork footbed that gives a comfortable feel that rivals going barefoot. The deep heel cup helps to align your foot in a natural way for proper support.
Many people have been wearing Birkenstock sandals for years and continue to find comfort and value. Why? Because of their reputation for comfort and support. Your feet are aligned and allowed to support the rest of your body in a perfectly natural way. That’s why Birkenstock sandals are so popular. Birkenstock sandals are comfortable, well crafted and stylish. You really can’t go wrong with these sandals.
